Just over a year ago, I wrote about the show "13 Reasons Why" on Netflix and why it is VITAL that you empower your kids. If you haven't heard of the show, it's a teen drama about suicide. Season 2 of this show was just released so I wanted to make you aware again. If you missed last years article, read it here: "You Can't Fix Dead: 13 Reasons Why You'd Better Empower Your Kids." Parents, please read the article, then talk to you children! If they are watching the show, please watch it with them and use it as a conversation starter. The conversations you have today, could save your child tomorrow. As you might know, I'm working on a program called TACK 17 for teachers and schools. This program is personal and professional development for teachers, and gives teachers the tools they need to teach social, emotional, and mental health to their students. Here are some pretty disturbing facts: - 1/2 of all kids have some sort of mental illness ranging from mild to severe.
- 1 in 12 kids attempt suicide.
- 50% of all mental health conditions begin by age 14.
- 1/2 of all lifetime anxiety cases begin by age 8.
I am working hard to get TACK 17 into schools and I won't stop until we help young people become literate in social, emotional, and mental wellness! As a parent, you can help too! Talk to you kids about what they are watching on TV, reach out to a professional if you notice signs that your child may need help, and focus your attention on creating a relationship with your child that is unbreakable! The strength of your relationship is what helps shield them from the temptations and challenges of the world! If you'd like to share TACK 17 with your school, please feel free to share the link www.tack17.com or you may share my contact information at the bottom of this page. Thank you! Together we can make a difference!
