"I struggled with counseling that didn't seem to help until I had a nervous breakdown..."

Hey Heathershenhouse

I had the extreme pleasure of interviewing Stephanie Jensen to share her experience and wisdom with you!

Stephanie went through a host of trauma in her early years and though she probably wouldn't describe herself like this... she is the picture of grace and courage. I admire her deeply and am very proud to call her a client, peer, and a friend!

Here is the very candid interview with Stephanie and her info so you can follow her on social media!

What struggle did you experience? How long did you struggle?
"Overcoming childhood trauma i.e. sexual abuse, alcoholic father, codependent and abusive mother, abandonment from extended family when I spoke the truth of the sexual abuse."

How did you get through it?
"I struggled with counseling that didn't seem to help until I had a nervous breakdown when my son was about 6 years old. I started searching for something new and came across Tony Robbins audio program. That lead me to hiring my first coach, taking the coaching certification and doing a crap ton of ongoing work."

How do you or did you deal with it on a day to day basis?
"Unwanted criticism or advice is my biggest trigger or the fear of receiving it. I often will retreat and journal about it. Sometimes I exercise if I need to offload energy. And sometimes I take little trips on my own to connect with myself. AND I have a coach."

What did you wish you knew when you were struggling?
"I wish I had know that I the outcome I feared so much wasn't going to kill me and that I had the power to thrive in spite of it."

What things did people say to you during that time that you found helpful? What things did people say to you during that time that made you feel worse?
"The best thing that people said was nothing. Their presence was the best. Or taking me to do something fun instead of coddling me. "You should" or "you should've" were/are the absolute worst things that anyone could say to me."

What advice can you share with women who are going through a similar struggle now?
"You are not alone. Those things you think that NO ONE will understand, other women have those thoughts, fears, confusion, and delusions. No matter how isolated you feel, you are NOT. Go to a group, hire a coach, or do a program."

Can you offer some words of wisdom for other women who might be struggling?
Every step toward healing, no matter how small or how slow is a step in the right direction.
